I fell in love with this embellished sock trend I found online. A little twist on the classic fisnet. Every time I went to buy a pair they were either a zillion dollers or in a store far, far away.
Not being one to deny myself. I decided to make my own and you can too. All you need is a spare 30mins, fishnet tights, hot glue gun, scissors, small brass fasteners, old pair of socks, decorations and creativity.
Step One: Creating the sock:
Cut the fish net tights to ankle length, ensuring both sides are even.
Grab a pair of old socks and cut the top band of the socks off, where the elastic hugs your ankle.
Put the cut out fishnets on and place the elastic from the old socks on over the top leaving about an inch of the fishnet tights to fold over the sock elastic. Fold and tuck the leftover inch of fishnet over the elastic.
Step Two: Fastening the elastic to the sock :
I used brass fasteners as an alternative to sewing. The fasteners are not only easy to apply but also give a studded effect. Puncture the brass fasteners through the middle of the band located at the top of the sock. Repeat this step around the top of the sock, ensuring the fasteners are evenly spread. That's the sock was done. Now on to the fun stuff.
Step Three: Time to decorate!
This part is really up to you, the fun thing is you can use anything to embellish your socks (as long as it's not too heavy for the elastic). Some idea; costume jewellery, beads, glitter.
I found some floral craft decorations at the variety store which I used to embellish the top of my socks. These flower decorations had an adhesive back that was surprisingly strong but just to be sure I used a hot glue gun to secure the flowers to my socks. DONE! Actually there is one last and very important step!
